BACKGROUND

moyo MODELS FOR AFRICA is a fundraising event scheduled to take place this year on 5th November 2011 at the prestigious moyo restaurant at Eden on the Bay in Big Bay.

The concept for MODELS FOR AFRICA was conceived in 2006 as a direct result of the obvious needs of local impoverished communities affected by HIV and AIDS, malnutrition, natural disasters and lack of educational facilities. We also supported many projects in neighbouring African countries that had similar needs.

The first event was an overwhelming success and raised in excess of R500 000.00 for charity. Personalities involved in this event included Corne Krige as Master of Ceremonies, and renowned models: Christina Storm, Lisa Marie Schneider, Kerry McGregor, Liza Botha, Rue Essop, Karen Visser, and Nadia Manjate who generously volunteered their time and had the audience captivated as they showed off the beautiful garments designed by students from ‘Learn to Earn’.

The second event continued this by once again raising in excess of R500 000.00 for charity. Personalities involved in this event included Michelle McLean as Master of Ceremonies, and renowned models: Liza Botha, Lieschen Botes, Mazaan Kallis, Rue Essop, Vathiswa Menemene, and others who generously volunteered their time. They put on a great show of the stunning dresses, which were late auctioned, produced by some up and coming local designers.

WHO IS ROXY INGRAM?

Roxy is a formidable young lady who has always had the temperament of a feisty go-getter. She does not easily back down on issues that are near to her heart and always gives a hundred percent of herself to any causes that she strongly believes in.

She started her modeling career from a very young age and then continued on a more serious note when she was fifteen years old. She has been highly successful worldwide and has featured locally in SA Sports Illustrated on numerous occasions; appearing as the face of the magazine in 2004.

Roxy has traversed the world doing various modeling assignments and was fortunate to learn life skills from a very young age. Travelling abroad on her own was a very daunting experience at first but she coped extremely well under such trying circumstances and emerged as a strong, dedicated and committed person.

Her exceptional achievements in the modeling and fashion industry have enabled her to build up a good rapport with various influential persons in the industry. These connections allowed for the hugely successful “Models for Africa” project that she, in conjunction with other organizations, launched in 2006. The event raised R500,000.00 for the benefit of several charities that were in dire need of financial assistance.

She loves a challenge and is passionate about the plight of those people in the community less-fortunate than herself. Subsequently, she has dedicated much of her time helping the Enozipho Creche situated in the Joe Slovo community.

Roxy is a committed Christian who has very high morals and values. She has the ability of eliciting great respect and trust from colleagues that she deals with and sincerely values their honest input on any projects that they encounter together.
